Prix pour notre prêtre par intérim – Award for our interim priest

Le texte qui suit est la traduction du paragraphe concernant notre prêtre par intérim, le Rév. Jeffrey Metcalfe, paru dans cet article de l’université mennonite canadienne (UMC). Le Rév. Metcalfe a reçu un prix de son ancienne université en cette année 2019. Félicitations Rév. Jeffrey!

Jeffrey Metcalfe (UMC ’09), de Québec, a été installé récemment comme chanoine théologien du diocèse anglican de Québec. Il facilite la réflexion théologique dans les processus décisionnels, aide les congrégations à s’engager dans le discernement vocationnel et crée des programmes pour plus d’enseignement clérical. Le Révérend a été ordonné en 2013 et a commencé son doctorat en études théologiques au collège Trinity de l’université de Toronto en 2015. Sa recherche converge sur le développement d’une méthodologie de théologie ethnographique pour explorer comment l’Église anglicane de Québec peut résister et repousser le racisme dans son contexte.  Il dit: ” Je me passionne à accueillir plusieurs sortes de migrants, incluant les réfugiés, parce que je crois que Dieu aime passionnément les différents peuples et endroits qu’Il a créé. Comme disciples de Jésus, l’Esprit nous appelle et nous habilite à nous joindre à ceux qui viennent résider avec nous venant d’autres contrées – non comme un devoir mais comme une joie. Le Révérend dit qu’il est reconnaissant pour ce prix ainsi que pour l’opportunité qui lui est donnée de remercier l’UMC pour la manière avec laquelle elle l’a façonné et habilité à réaliser le travail qu’il fait maintenant. Lui et sa femme Julie ont deux enfants.

Jeffrey Metcalfe (CMU ’09) of Quebec City, QC was recently installed as the Canon Theologian for the Anglican Diocese of Quebec. He facilitates theological reflection in decision making processes, helps congregations engage in vocational discernment, and creates programs to further clergy education. Metcalfe was ordained in 2013 and began his PhD in Theological Studies at the University of Toronto’s Trinity College in 2015. His research focuses on developing an ethnographic theological methodology to explore how the Anglican church in Quebec City can resist and push back against the racism in their context. “I am passionate about welcoming many kinds of migrants, including refugees, because I believe that God passionately loves the different peoples and places that God has created,” he says. “As disciples of Jesus, the Spirit calls and empowers us to join together with those who come to dwell with us from other lands – not as a duty, but as a joy.” Metcalfe says he is grateful for this award and the opportunity it gives him to thank CMU for the way it has shaped and empowered him to do the work he is doing today. He and his wife Julie have two children.
